Appearance is white crystalline powder. Soluble in water, insoluble in organic solvents. Its molecular structure is a stable six-membered ring structure, which dissolves in water and combines with water molecules to form a hexahydrate.
Sodium trimetaphosphate can be used in gypsum board production in the building materials industry to enhance the strength and toughness of gypsum board and improve its waterproof ability. It is used as a softener in water treatment; in the food industry, it can be used as a starch modifier; a water retaining agent for meat processing; a stabilizer and dispersant for dairy products such as ice cream and cheese to prevent food discoloration and prevent the decomposition of vitamin C. At the same time, it is also the raw material for the production of Vc phosphate.
The process of sodium trimetaphosphate cross-linking starch must first be hydrolyzed into sodium tripolyphosphate and then generated into distarch phosphate. The conversion of sodium trimetaphosphate to sodium tripolyphosphate (the pH value of 1% solution of pentasodium is 9.2-10) requires hydrolysis in an alkaline environment. The pH of distarch phosphate ester finally generated is 11. According to the principle of equilibrium, the required environment should be alkaline.
Adding sodium trimetaphosphate during the production process of gypsum board can make the gypsum board lighter and enhance the strength and toughness of the gypsum board, and it is not easy to deform.
